Welcome to GTFS Lens

GTFS Lens is a modern platform for exploring, validating, and visualizing General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data.

Whether you're planning new routes, optimizing schedules, or simply understanding transit patterns, GTFS Lens provides an intuitive interface to dive deep into your GTFS datasets.

GTFS Availability Requirement

To use GTFS Lens, the transit agency’s GTFS feed must be published and available in the MobilityData Database.

GTFS Lens relies on the MobilityData Database as the authoritative source for public GTFS feeds. If a feed is not listed there, it cannot be accessed or analyzed as a public dataset within the application.

What You Can Do with GTFS Lens

Explore GTFS data visually
Inspect routes, trips, blocks, and schedules using familiar views and interactive maps.

GTFS Lens currently focuses on the following core GTFS schedule files:

  • feed_info.txt
  • agency.txt
  • calendar.txt
  • calendar_dates.txt
  • routes.txt
  • stops.txt
  • shapes.txt
  • stop_times.txt
  • trips.txt

These files provide the foundation for understanding scheduled service, route structure, stop patterns, and how the service operates over time. Additional GTFS files and expanded coverage are planned for future releases.

Validate and investigate schedules
Visually review schedules to identify potential data issues, inconsistencies, or unexpected service patterns.

GTFS Lens provides UI-based inspection only and does not perform formal GTFS validation.
For authoritative validation, it is recommended that GTFS publishers validate their feeds using the Canonical GTFS Schedule Validator published by MobilityData.

GTFS Lens is designed to complement official validation tools by helping users explore, understand, and investigate GTFS data in a visual context.

Analyze service with confidence
Compare services across dates and understand how schedules operate in practice.

Work with public or private data
Access published agency feeds or securely upload and analyze your own GTFS datasets.

Our Vision

Our goal is to make GTFS Lens the go-to platform for understanding public transit schedule data.

By combining powerful analysis, interactive mapping, and a browser-first experience, GTFS Lens enables transit teams and researchers to gain deeper insight into their data— without complex tooling or infrastructure.

Acknowledgment

strada360 acknowledges and thanks MobilityData for maintaining the MobilityData Database and for providing the Canonical GTFS Schedule Validator. These resources play a critical role in supporting consistent, reliable, and interoperable GTFS data across the public transportation industry.

GTFS Lens is designed to complement these community-supported tools by helping agencies visually explore and better understand their GTFS data.
